Over the past several months, Ohio’s redistricting process has been laced with partisan agendas, a lack of transparency, and is blatantly unconstitutional.
The Ohio Redistricting Commission has missed several deadlines and conducted much of its work behind closed doors, contrary to the Congressional Redistricting Procedures Amendment that was passed by nearly 75% of Ohio voters in 2018. Instead of prioritizing communities and their needs, officials have prioritized their party’s political power.
That is why I joined the Fair Elections Center’s Campus Vote Project as a redistricting fellow. Redistricting fellows are empowered to provide a college student voice as part of state redistricting processes. Currently, many colleges and universities throughout Ohio are split between multiple congressional or state legislative districts.
